ITANAGAR, Jun 17: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Kameng, Dirang in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture organized a one-day awareness programme under the month-long national flagship campaign ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ through Team–I at Phadam village and Team–II at Ankaling village.
The month-long national campaign ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ was launched on June 1 and will continue until June 30 with the objective of promoting soil conservation, balanced use of fertilizers, natural farming, field demonstrations on green and organic manure, sustainable agriculture, and enhanced farmer awareness across the district.
At Phadam village, the programme was presided over by GPM Karmu along with GB Khandu and attended by officers from KVK and the Dept of Agriculture, along with 48 participating farmers.
Addressing the gathering, Dr T S Mishra, SMS (Horticulture), highlighted the significance of the month-long campaign and stated that KVK scientists and Agriculture Departmental officials are conducting awareness programmes across the district to encourage sustainable farming practices and strengthen soil health management.
During the technical session, Pem Thinley, SMS (Agronomy), elaborated on the importance of intercropping with legumes for biological nitrogen fixation to improve soil health. He also emphasized the incorporation of green manure crops to maintain soil fertility and the balanced use of fertilizers for sustainable crop production.
At Ankaling village, Dorjee Yodon Thungon, SMS (Community Sc), encouraged farmers to adopt eco-friendly and soil-friendly agricultural practices that contribute to sustainable crop production and environmental conservation.
The awareness programme focused on integrated nutrient management, responsible pesticide use, improvement of soil health, and conservation-oriented agricultural practices.
Experts explained that sustainable farming approaches improve soil structure, enhance nutrient availability, reduce environmental pollution, and ensure long-term agricultural productivity.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers and agricultural stakeholders, who actively interacted with experts and expressed their commitment to adopting sustainable and soil-friendly farming practices in their fields.
Participants also pledged to spread awareness on soil health management and responsible agricultural input use among fellow farmers for the benefit of future generations.
