ITANAGAR, Jun 19: The Upper Subansiri-Kamle District Boundary Affected Peoples' Forum (USKDBAPF) has urged the State Government to take immediate steps for the physical demarcation of the boundary between Upper Subansiri and Kamle districts to ensure a lasting resolution of the long-standing dispute.
Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here on Friday, USKDBAPF chairman Dosh Dasi Tamin said the state Home Department had issued a re-notification on May 29 following complaints from various sections of the public, clarifying that the earlier notification issued on May 27, 2020, stood nullified.
Welcoming the government's decision, Tamin appealed to the people of both districts to maintain peace and harmony.
However, he observed that the re-notification had only provided a temporary solution to the boundary issue.
"This re-notification has only temporarily solved the boundary dispute. The matter can be resolved permanently only through physical demarcation of the boundary between the two districts," he said.
The forum urged the government to constitute a fact-finding committee to conduct a ground assessment and undertake the physical demarcation of a permanent boundary to prevent future disputes.
Tamin further suggested that the boundary should be demarcated at least 5 km away from the Sigin River to safeguard the interests of residents who have been living in the area for several decades.
He maintained that any concerns arising from the demarcation process could be addressed through dialogue and mutual understanding among all stakeholders.
The forum expressed hope that the government would take timely action to establish a clear and permanent boundary, ensuring lasting peace and administrative clarity for the affected communities.
