Four girl toppers in ICR honoured under BBBP scheme

ITANAGAR, Jun 19: Department of Women & Child Development, Papum Pare district in collaboration with the District Administration, Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) organized a felicitation programme under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative to honour the girl student toppers for the academic session 2025–26.

Held at the DC’s office premises here, the felicitation programme recognized the girl student toppers (1st rank) among the government schools in the ICR. Notably, all four achievers are students of Malo Tarin Govt Hr Sec School, Itanagar, reflecting the institution's remarkable academic excellence and commitment to quality education.

The felicitated toppers are Pompi Kar – 89.80% (Class X), Kessang Tamin – 88.20% (XII Humanities), Yumlam Leema – 79.00% (XII Science), and Sagata Nath – 79.60% (XII Commerce).

Cash prizes of Rs 10,000 each along with certificates were awarded to the girl child achievers.

Addressing the gathering, Capital Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu stressed that girl children should not be discriminated in any form and must be encouraged to dream big and work hard. He observed that recent competitive examinations such as UPSC, APPSCCE, and APSSB have demonstrated that girls can excel and even outperform their counterparts when provided equal opportunities.

He further highlighted that a supportive and congenial home environment is one of the key factors behind many success stories.

Speaking on the occasion, Jaya Taba, Dy Director ICDS, Papum Pare district, briefed the gathering on the objectives of the BBBP scheme, a flagship programme of the Government of India aimed at celebrating the birth of the girl child, promoting her education and achievements, and addressing the issue of declining child sex ratio. She emphasized that the programme focuses on ensuring the survival, protection, and empowerment of girls through education and equal opportunities.

Shruti, Additional Superintendent of Police Itanagar, encouraged the students to remain consistent, disciplined, and hardworking, stating that academic excellence forms the foundation for future success in life.

The programme celebrated the hard work, determination, and academic excellence of the achievers and served as an inspiration for other girls across the Capital region to pursue their dreams through education, dedication, and perseverance. (DIPRO)
