Silluk, APU mark International Yoga Day with focus on wellness & healthy ageing

PASIGHAT, Jun 21: The 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated with great enthusiasm and active participation at Silluk village under Mebo Sub-Division, about 30 km from Pasighat, in East Siang district on Sunday.

Held under the theme “Prana Silluk 2026 – Breathe Pure, Nourish the Soul, Experience Silluk,” the event brought together villagers, students, Govt officials and community members in a collective celebration of wellness and harmony.

The programme, initiated by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing and organized by the Department of Panchayati Raj in collaboration with the District Administration, aimed to promote yoga, healthy living, environmental consciousness and community spirit.

The mass yoga session was led by Minister Tasing and guided by yoga instructor Episa Preme. Prominent among those who participated were Pasighat East MLA Tapi Darang, East Siang ZPC Ruth Tabing Boko and Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba.

Speakers highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life for physical fitness, mental well-being and overall health. They also emphasized the role of yoga in fostering a healthier future through unity, wellness and harmony with nature.

Speaking to mediapersons after the event, Tasing said that the International Day of Yoga celebration at Silluk under the banner of “Prana Silluk 2026” formed part of the nationwide and global observance of Yoga Day.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh University (APU) also observed the International Day of Yoga on its campus with a special yoga session attended by Registrar Narmi Darang, faculty members, employees, staff and students.

Observed under this year's theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the programme featured common yoga asanas, breathing exercises and meditation under the guidance of trained instructors.

Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Registrar (Academics) Likha Rinchin highlighted the importance of yoga in maintaining physical and mental well-being and encouraged members of the university community to incorporate the practice into their daily lives.

He said the theme of healthy ageing was relevant to all age groups, from students to senior employees, and underscored the need for a balanced lifestyle through regular yoga practice.

Both programmes concluded with a collective commitment to promoting yoga as a means of achieving a healthier, happier and more harmonious society.
