PASIGHAT, Jun 21: A dedicated Livelihood Market Shed for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) was inaugurated by RD&PR Minister Ojing Tasing at Pasighat on Saturday.
The facility has been developed by the Panchayat Department, East Siang through the renovation of an erstwhile Anchal Samiti meat market shed located in the heart of Pasighat town.
Recognizing the need for a permanent marketing platform for SHGs, the Panchayat Dept undertook efforts to reclaim and revitalise the premises. Although SHGs across East Siang have been producing a wide range of quality products, including handloom and handicrafts, bakery items, processed foods and other local produce, the lack of a dedicated sales outlet often limited their market access, forcing them to rely on temporary exhibitions or other establishments to display their products.
Following the completion of encroachment removal proceedings, the building was renovated and transformed into a livelihood market shed exclusively for SHGs. The initiative has been implemented in convergence with the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM), which will facilitate the formation of a collective of SHGs from across the district for the management and operation of the facility.
With the inauguration of the Livelihood Market Shed, a long-neglected public asset has been transformed into a vibrant community space that will provide SHGs with a permanent platform to showcase and market their products in a prime commercial location. The initiative is expected to improve market access, enhance product visibility and generate sustainable livelihood opportunities for SHG members across East Siang.
The inauguration programme was attended by Ruth Tabing Boko, ZPC East Siang; Pebika Lego, ADC-cum-DPDO East Siang; along with PRI members, SHG members and other dignitaries. (DIPRO)
