Arunachal celebrates Int’l Day of Yoga in a befitting way

ITANAGAR, Jun 21: Joining the rest of the world, the Department of Health & Family Welfare (GoAP) observed the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) at the TRIHMS auditorium, Naharlagun today.

The theme for International Day of Yoga 2026 is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, focussing on promoting active, dignified and independent ageing through yoga.

The event, which witnessed a large gathering comprising officers/officials of the Health Dept, Faculty & students of TRIHMS and general public, featured mass Yogasana demonstrations in accordance with the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) developed by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.

The session was led by experienced Yoga instructors from Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living, Jollang, and lasted for 45 minutes, during which participants actively engaged in performing various Yogasanas.

The event was graced by Vivek HP, Secretary Health (FW), GoAP and Prof (Dr) Naba Kumar Bazbaruah, Dean cum Director TRIHMS, Naharlagun.

The event concluded with a mass yoga session followed by a yoga pledge. 

YUPIA: Papum Pare celebrated International Day of Yoga (IDY) at Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium here today.

Deputy Commissioner Lobsang Tsering, District Medical Officer Dr Reena Ronya, DRCHO Dr Tomar Kamki, officers, students of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya and PM Shri UPS Yupia, ITBP personnel, and staff from the DC and DMO offices participated in the event.

The yoga session was led by Toko Nonia along with her team of physiotherapists. Participants actively engaged in various yoga Asanas and breathing techniques, highlighting the role of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and holistic health.

Later, the DC administered a Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan pledge for a drug-free society to all participants, emphasizing the importance of a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.

PASIGHAT: H-Spring Foundation, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Siang celebrated International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm and participation at H-Spring Integrated school, Diking here today.

The programme was organized to promote physical well-being, mental health, and awareness about the importance of yoga as a holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle.

Speaking on the occasion as a special guest, Dr Y Darang, Rtd Medical Superintendent, highlighted the health benefits of doing yoga every day.

O Dupak, Head Gaon Bura of Mirku village, also highlighted the significance of International Yoga Day and the role of yoga in fostering overall well-being.

The Yoga instructor of the day, Pema Lama, a Yoga teacher from Sri Sri Vidya Mandir Pasighat, spoke about the importance and benefits of doing yoga. She stressed that Yoga is a powerful tool for enhancing physical fitness, mental clarity, and emotional stability. Regular practice of yoga helps reduce stress, improve concentration, and promote overall wellness.

A yoga session was conducted by the yoga instructors, who demonstrated various yoga postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), Surya namaskar and meditation techniques.

Attending as a resource person, Adv Sunny Tayeng spoke on LSUC (Legal Service Unit for Children) scheme. She also highlighted the rights of children and the role of legal aid institutions in promoting social welfare and child development.

TEZU: The Central Bureau of Communication, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt of India, Field Office, Tezu (Arunachal Pradesh Region) along with other parts of the country celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga by organizing a Special Outreach Programme (SOP) at the Community Hall in village Mekailiang.

The celebration centered on the global theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’ where Banusai Tarainyu, GPM Mekailiang, and Soumen Roy Chowdhury, Principal VKV, graced.

A mass display of Yog-mudras were displayed by the participants under the leadership of yoga experts, namely Utatm Kumar Patel and Majem Takaliang, In-charge Health & Wellness centre, Mekailiang and Upendra Pandey, In-charge, GUPS, Mekailiang.

A quiz competition on the importance of Yoga was organized among the students to mark the occasion. The winners were awarded with attractive prizes.

Earlier, Parvesh Kumar, HoO, Field Office, CBC (Tezu), enlightened the gathering about the purpose of organizing the programme.

AALO: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Field Office Aalo, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, organised a Special Outreach Programme on the occasion of the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 at Siyom Valley School, Pessing in West Siang district today.

Robin Peter, Principal Siyom Valley School, Pessing, attended the programme as a chief guest, while Kegam Basar Ado, Yoga Instructor, Art of Living, Aalo Unit, participated as a resource person.

The programme commenced with a Yoga oath-taking ceremony led by Ado.

As part of the programme, yoga demonstrations were conducted to promote awareness and encourage participation among students and members of the public. A theme-based quiz competition was also organised, and the winners were awarded attractive prizes.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and local residents, reflecting the growing awareness and acceptance of yoga as a means of achieving a healthy and harmonious lifestyle.

M Basar, HoO, CBC Field Office Aalo, elaborated on the significance of the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026 and its theme, ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’.

BOMDILA: The District Administration in collaboration with the District Ayush Society, West Kameng celebrated International Yoga Day at the auditorium of Govt Hr Sec School, Bomdila, with enthusiastic participation from SSB personnel, 2nd Arunachal Scouts, NDRF, Brahma Kumaris, school students, government officials and members of the public.

The programme was graced by Dr Dilip Kumar, Deputy Commissioner West Kameng, Dr D W Thongon, Superintendent of Police West Kameng; Col Parikshit Das, Commanding Officer, 2ndBn Arunachal Scouts; senior officers from the Health & Family Welfare Department and AYUSH Department, along with other dignitaries.

On the occasion, the District Administration and West Kameng Police also conducted awareness on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, sensitizing participants on the harmful effects of substance abuse and encouraging youth to lead a healthy, disciplined and drug-free life.

The programme concluded with a guided yoga session and a collective pledge to promote yoga.

DAPORIJO: The 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 was observed at Singnik Hall here in Upper Subansiri district under the theme “Yoga Mahotsav 2026 – Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from government officials, PRI members, students, NGOs, religious leaders, and members of the public.

The event was attended by MLAs Taniya Soki (Daporijo), and Nakap Nalo (Nacho), and Tasso Gambo, Deputy Commissioner Upper Subansiri, along with HoDs and other dignitaries.

The event featured a mass yoga session aimed at promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and a healthy lifestyle. The observance underscored the significance of yoga as a means of achieving harmony between mind and body and fostering healthy ageing.

The yoga demonstration and practice session was conducted by Miju Nayam of Art of Living, who guided participants through various yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques.

Participants actively engaged in the session and appreciated the initiative to promote wellness through yoga.

The programme was organized by the District Health Society, Upper Subansiri in coordination with various departments and stakeholders. Similar observances were also conducted across health institutions in the district to mark the occasion.

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA), under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), successfully organized the celebration of International Yoga Day-cum-Legal Awareness Programme at Govt Hr Sec School, Ganga village here.

The programme commenced with more than 200 participants, including Techi Necha, Vice Chairman Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resource Development Agency (APBRDA).

A yoga session was conducted to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and a healthy lifestyle among the participants. Students, teachers, and officials enthusiastically participated in the event.

During the technical session, Dene Mena, Jt Secretary APSLSA, highlighted the role and functions of Legal Services Authorities, availability of free and competent legal aid services, Legal Aid Clinics, and the importance of Para Legal Volunteers in ensuring access to justice.

Techi Neeh, Legal Aid Counsel, APSLSA, delivered an informative session on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2024, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the provisions of the NDPS Act relating to drug abuse.

Terji Gamlin, Front Office Advocate, APSLSA, sensitized participants on the Right to Education Act, NALSA (Child Friendly Legal Services for Children) Scheme, 2024, NALSA (Legal Services to Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities) Scheme, 2024, NALSA Helpline 15100, and the Legal Services Mobile App.

The event successfully combined the message of holistic well-being through yoga with awareness of legal rights and protections, particularly for children and vulnerable sections of society.

Meanwhile, recognizing the transformative role of yoga in promoting physical health, mental well-being, emotional balance, and spiritual growth, Dera Natung Govt College (DNGC), Itanagar observed the International Day of Yoga (IDY) at the college auditorium today.

The programme was organized by the Yoga and Wellness Centre, DNGC, in collaboration with Seva Bharti, a youth-led NGO dedicated to community service, youth empowerment, social awareness, and nation-building initiatives.

The theme for this year's International Day of Yoga, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlights the importance of adopting yoga as a lifelong practice for maintaining physical vitality, mental resilience, and overall well-being.

DNGC Principal Dr M Q Khan, a strong advocate of health and wellness, conveyed his message on the occasion, emphasizing the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle through yoga.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 50 participants, including members of the Yoga and Wellness Centre, teaching faculty, and NCC volunteers of the college.

The session included the practice of various yoga postures, breathing techniques, and meditation exercises aimed at enhancing physical fitness and mental wellness. Participants also reflected on the significance of integrating yoga into daily life for achieving harmony between body, mind, and spirit.

The International Day of Yoga programme was successfully coordinated by  Dr. Tage Ampa and Dr. Bige Yomgam, Dr Gepi jini  who facilitated the smooth conduct of the event and encouraged participants to embrace yoga as a regular lifestyle practice.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge to promote the values of health, wellness, and holistic living through yoga, reaffirming the commitment of DNGC and its partners towards creating a healthier and more mindful society.

RONO HILLS: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 with great enthusiasm and vibrant participation under the banner of ‘Yoga Sangam’.

The celebration reflected this year’s global theme, ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’, emphasizing the importance of yoga in promoting physical health, mental harmony, emotional balance, and a sustainable healthy lifestyle.

The grand celebration was organized at the old auditorium, RGU, where more than 300 participants actively took part in the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof S K Nayak, RGU Vice Chancellor (i/c). The event was also attended by Dr N T Rikam, RGU Registrar, along with faculty members, administrative officers, teaching and non-teaching staff, research scholars, alumni, students, and other members of the university fraternity.

The programme also featured the live streaming of the Prime Minister’s address on the occasion of the IDY 2026, which was viewed by all participants.

The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from personnel of the 31st Battalion, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Yupia, students and research scholars of RGU, students of Govt Sec School, RGU campus, faculty members, administrative staff, security personnel, teaching and non-teaching employees, and members of the local community.

As part of the IDY 2026 countdown activities, RGU successfully organized several programmes, including a Yoga Quiz Competition, Yogasana Competition, and Common Yoga Protocol Sessions for NCC and NSS volunteers. Meanwhile, the State Legislative Assembly today observed the 12th International Day of Yoga with a special yoga session held at the Assembly Complex.

The programme witnessed the participation of MLA Hayeng Mangfi, Secretary Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Tadar Meena, Jt Secretary K Jugli, along with officers/officials of the Assembly.

The session emphasized the importance of physical fitness, mental well-being, and harmony, highlighting the role of yoga in promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Speaking on the occasion, Secy Meena expressed gratitude to The Art of Living for conducting the yoga session and sharing their expertise with the participants.
