Governor calls for impartial probe into the recent incident at NERIST

Govt will take appropriate action against those found responsible: HM

ITANAGAR, Jun 24: Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik has asserted that educational institutions must remain safe, secure, and conducive to learning, while stressing on the responsibility of all stakeholders to safeguard the sanctity and reputation of educational establishments across the State.

He made this observation during a meeting with Home Minister Mama Natung, who called on the Governor at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar today.

During the meeting, they held detailed discussions on the prevailing law and order situation in the State, with particular focus on the recent incident at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST).

Expressing deep concern over the unfortunate developments, the Governor shared his anguish that NERIST, one of the premier technical and higher educational institutions of the North Eastern Region, had been subjected to such an incident. He emphasized that educational institutions must remain safe, secure, and conducive to learning. He also underscored the responsibility of all stakeholders to safeguard the sanctity and reputation of educational establishments across the State.

The Governor, while expressing his anguish, advised an impartial inquiry into the rowdyism, threats, coercion and intimidation of the Director NERIST, by certain groups. He felt that it was setting a bad example for our youth and must be set right.

Highlighting the importance of effective institutional governance, the Governor stated that the management and administration of educational institutions should be guided by merit, integrity, dignity, discipline, transparency, and accountability.

He further stressed that any act that undermines the functioning, credibility, or harmony of educational institutions must be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law to reinforce public confidence in the State’s educational ecosystem.

The Home Minister assured the Governor that the State Government is treating the matter with utmost seriousness and will investigate the matter and take appropriate action against those found responsible. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting educational institutions, and ensuring a secure environment for students, teachers, and staff across Arunachal Pradesh.
