PHQ organises anti-drug awareness program at Chimpu

ITANAGAR, Jun 25: As part of the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Awareness Campaign Cell of the Arunachal Pradesh Police Headquarters (PHQ), Motor Transport (MT) Branch, organized an awareness programme and rally at Chimpu on Thursday.

Students and faculty members of Amar Jyoti Government Primary School, Chimpu, actively participated in the rally and awareness programme aimed at promoting a drug-free society.

The programme was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Superintendent of Police (MT) Thinley Namge. Among those present were Headmaster-in-Charge H Tekwa, teachers of the school, Motor Transport Officer Inspector R Dakpa, Reserve Inspector M Mibang, MT Branch personnel and resource person Dagrik Gara, a Psychiatric Social Worker and Mental Health Professional from the State Mental Hospital, Midpu.

Addressing the participants, the resource person highlighted the harmful effects of substance abuse on brain chemistry, mental health and overall physical well-being. He stressed the importance of awareness, early intervention and community support in preventing addiction among young people.

Speaking on the occasion, SP Thinley Namge emphasized the legal consequences of drug trafficking and substance abuse under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He also underscored the role of youth in community policing and encouraged students and citizens to report illicit activities through the Arunachal Pradesh Police WhatsApp Helpline and the MANAS 24x7 Mental Health Helpline.

The programme was organized with the objective of strengthening collective action and cooperation in achieving a society free from drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The event concluded with the administration of an anti-drug pledge by SP Thinley Namge, reaffirming the commitment of participants towards building a drug-free and healthy community.
