TRIHMS voyeurism case: Sanitary supervisor arrested by Nlg Police; multiple videos recovered

Itanagar, Jun 26: Naharlagun Police has arrested a sanitary supervisor of the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun for allegedly secretly recording women inside washrooms, a senior officer said on Friday.

According to Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Dr Nyelam Nega, the case came to light on the morning of June 25 when a woman using a general washroom near the ICCU Block at TRIHMS noticed a mobile phone being held through a ventilation gap and allegedly being used to film her. Shocked by the incident, she immediately raised an alarm and informed her family members, who rushed to the spot.

During the ensuing commotion, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee and was also seen trying to delete the recorded material from his mobile phone. He was subsequently detained by the Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station, Inspector Krishnendu Dev, and later arrested.

A case has been registered at Naharlagun Police Station under Sections 74, 77, 78(1) and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is being supervised by SDPO Naharlagun, ASP Rishi Longdo.

The accused has been identified as Tamchi Nido (29), a resident of Gangte village in Sangram, Kurung Kumey district, presently residing at Last Damsite, Naharlagun. He joined TRIHMS as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) in May 2021 and has been serving as a sanitary supervisor since May 2025.

The SP said that during sustained interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to secretly recording women in washrooms and disclosed that he had been indulging in such acts for the past three to four months. Examination of his mobile phone reportedly led to the recovery of several suspected voyeuristic videos.

The handset allegedly used in the commission of the offence, a Redmi Note 11T 5G mobile phone, has been seized as evidence.

The accused has been formally arrested and will be produced before the competent court for further legal proceedings, the SP informed.

Dr Nega stated that the investigation is being conducted diligently and assured that justice would be ensured for the victims.
