ITANAGAR, Jun 27: The 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion National Cadet Corps (1 AP Bn NCC), under the aegis of NCC Group Headquarters Tezpur, has commenced its final Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-68) cum Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme (YAMS) programme for the training year 2026-27 at Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic (RGGP), Itanagar. The 10-day camp is being conducted from June 24 to July 3.
A total of 247 NCC cadets are participating in the camp under the leadership of the Commanding Officer of 1 AP Battalion NCC. The camp is being supported by 10 military staff, three Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) and one Caretaker Officer (CTO), who are overseeing training and welfare activities.
The camp received a special boost with the visit of Brigadier Mayank Vaid, the newly appointed Commander of NCC Group Headquarters, Tezpur. During his visit, he inspected various training facilities, including the firing simulator and firing range, and interacted with cadets to understand their training experiences.
The primary objective of the camp is to familiarize cadets with the rigours and discipline of camp life while instilling the values of unity, discipline, national integration and esprit de corps. The training curriculum includes physical training, field craft and battle craft, small arms firing, musketry, weapon display, sword drill, yoga sessions, games and motivational lectures by distinguished personalities.
The activities are designed to build physical endurance, mental resilience, leadership qualities, teamwork and self-confidence among cadets, contributing to their overall personality development.
A major highlight of the camp is the inclusion of the Yuva Aapda Mitra (YAM) Scheme, an initiative of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) aimed at creating a cadre of trained youth volunteers capable of responding during emergencies and natural disasters.
Under the programme, cadets are receiving structured training in disaster preparedness, relief and rescue operations, and emergency management techniques to effectively respond to situations such as floods, cloudbursts and earthquakes. The training is being imparted by certified instructors from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Arunachal Pradesh.
The camp reflects NCC's continued commitment to nurturing disciplined, responsible and service-oriented youth capable of contributing meaningfully to society and supporting communities during times of crisis.
