NETRA joins RGU to successfully wrap up Nat’l Orientation Program on Northeast India Development

RONO HILLS, Jun 26: The NETRA Foundation in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh successfully organized a 10-day National Orientation Programme on Northeast India Development under the theme ‘Know Your Northeast’ from June 15 to 26 in online mode.

The programme brought together eminent academicians, researchers, policymakers, development practitioners, government officials, faculty members, and students from across the country to deliberate on the diverse dimensions of Northeast India’s development.

A total of 105 participants registered for the programme, representing a wide range of Central Universities, State Universities, Government and Private Colleges, Research Institutions, Government Departments, Trusts, Cooperative Societies, and Civil Society Organisations from across India including Nalanda University, RGU, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Nagaland University, Tripura University, Sikkim University, National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), NIRDPR, Arunachal Pradesh University, Dhanamanjuri University, Girijananda Chowdhury University, The ICFAI University Tripura, Royal Global University, Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology, Purnea University, Sunbird Trust, and several other universities, colleges, and organizations.

The programme aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the socio-economic, political, environmental, cultural, and developmental landscape of Northeast India through expert lectures delivered by distinguished scholars and practitioners.

The session began with a welcome address by Dr Kanak Haloi, president NETRA and former Professor, NIRDPR-North Eastern Regional Centre, who highlighted the importance of building informed perspectives on Northeast India and emphasized NETRA’s commitment to academic excellence and regional development.

Dr Bamin Tada, former Advisor (Health), North East Council, appreciated the initiative and stressed the need for interdisciplinary engagement in addressing the region’s developmental challenges.

Dr N T Rikam, Registrar RGU, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting research and academic collaborations focusing on Northeast India.

Prof S K Nayak, Vice-Chancellor RGU, In his inaugural address, emphasized that Northeast India possesses immense potential in natural resources, cultural diversity, strategic importance, and human capital. He encouraged young scholars to undertake evidence-based research that contributes to sustainable and inclusive development of the region.

Over the ten days, experts from leading universities and national institutions delivered lectures on key developmental issues of Northeast India.
