One-time lottery draws conducted illegally during festivals, claims SAYA

ITANAGAR, Jun 29: The Save Arunachal Youth Association (SAYA) has claimed that one-time lottery draws are being conducted illegally during the Dree Festival, despite ban being imposed by the State DGP amidst the enforcement of the Arunachal Pradesh Gambling (Prohibition) Act, 2012.

Addressing reporters at the APC here today, SAYA president Likha Rajnik stated that SAYA has lodged a Zero FIR at the Naharlagun police station against the alleged illegal conduct of one-time lottery draws during the upcoming Dree Festival and similar activities organized by various tribes, unions, organizations and societies across the State.

He further said that the association has also submitted a complaint to the Director General of Police in this regard. Following the complaint, the DGP reportedly issued written instructions to the SPs of all districts to initiate necessary action against individuals and organizations found violating the Act.

Rajnik, however, clarified that the organization is not opposed to Dree celebration but is against the illegal sale of one-time lottery tickets and gambling activities being carried out in the name of festivals.

Alleging widespread violation of the law, the SAYA president claimed that several clans, unions, organizations and societies continue to sell lottery tickets under the guise of festivals and cultural events across the State.

He further alleged that lottery tickets are being openly displayed and sold in various parts of the State despite the government’s announcement to strictly enforce laws aimed at curbing illegal gambling and unauthorized lotteries.

Meanwhile, SAYA chief has urged the State government to take immediate and stringent action against those involved in the sale and promotion of illegal lottery tickets and gambling activities, stating that strict enforcement of the law is essential to prevent such practices.
