Itanagar, Jun 30: The Centre has stepped up its assessment of the flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh with Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kiren Rijiju undertaking a two-day visit to the state to review the impact of recent floods and ongoing relief efforts.
The Central leaders arrived at Donyi Polo Airport, Hollongi, on Tuesday and were received by Chief Minister Pema Khandu. The visit follows directions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assess the flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring Assam.
As part of the visit, Khandu accompanied the Union Ministers to flood-affected areas of Hoj and Potin in Keyi Panyor district to assess the extent of damage caused by recent floods and review ongoing relief, rehabilitation and restoration measures.
The leaders interacted with affected families and local officials to gain first-hand information about the challenges faced by residents and the assistance being provided by the administration.
Welcoming the ministers, the Chief Minister said the visit reflected the Government of India’s continued support and commitment to the people of Arunachal Pradesh during the ongoing crisis. He also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for deputing senior ministers to assess the situation on the ground.
The Chief Minister further informed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday contacted him to review the flood situation and discuss ongoing rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who arrived in the state on a two-day visit along with Kiren Rijiju, said the visit was being undertaken on the directions of the Prime Minister to review the flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
“In this hour of crisis, the Central Government stands firmly with the people and the governments of both states,” Chouhan stated.
The visit comes as several districts in Arunachal Pradesh continue to grapple with the aftermath of heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides, which have damaged roads, bridges, agricultural fields and residential properties in multiple locations.
State and district administrations are continuing relief and restoration work, while the Centre and state government remain in close coordination to address the needs of affected communities and expedite recovery efforts.
