CATC-68 & YAMS program concludes, equipping NCC cadets with military, disaster response skills

ITANAGAR, Jul 3: The 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) successfully concluded its Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-68) cum Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme (YAMS) programme on Friday after 10 days of intensive military and disaster management training at Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic College (RGGPC), Itanagar.

Held from June 24 to July 3 under the aegis of the NCC Group Headquarters, Tezpur, the camp brought together 247 NCC cadets from across Arunachal Pradesh.

The training was conducted under the leadership of the Commanding Officer of 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion NCC with support from 10 military personnel, four Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) and a Caretaker Officer (CTO).

The camp received a morale boost with the visit of Brigadier Mayank Vaid, Commander, NCC Group Headquarters Tezpur, who interacted with the cadets and encouraged them to uphold the values of discipline, leadership and selfless service.

Designed to expose cadets to military-style discipline and leadership, the camp featured physical training, field craft and battle craft, small arms firing, musketry, weapon display, sword drill, yoga, games and motivational lectures. The activities were aimed at enhancing physical fitness, confidence, teamwork and leadership qualities among the participants.

A key feature of this year's camp was the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme, under which certified instructors from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) trained cadets in disaster preparedness and emergency response. The sessions covered disaster risk reduction, search and rescue techniques, relief operations and emergency management, preparing cadets to respond effectively during floods, earthquakes, cloudbursts and other natural disasters.

To conclude the camp, organisers held Survival Day and Fun Day, giving cadets an opportunity to apply survival skills in a practical setting while also strengthening bonds through recreational activities and cultural exchanges featuring traditional cuisines from different regions of the state.

The organisers said the camp not only strengthened the cadets' military orientation but also enhanced their disaster response capabilities, leadership skills and sense of social responsibility, reinforcing the NCC's role in nation-building and community service.
