2.8 magnitude earthquake jolts Tawang, second tremor in Arunachal in three days

Itanagar, Jul 4: A mild earthquake measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale struck Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday evening, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Itanagar.

The tremor occurred at 7:14:26 pm IST, with its epicentre located at 27.568°N latitude and 91.916°E longitude, at a shallow depth of 5 kilometres.

Official sources said there were no immediate reports of damage to property or casualties, and the district administration is monitoring the situation.

The latest tremor comes just two days after another mild earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale hit West Kameng district on Thursday evening.

According to official earthquake parameters, the earlier quake occurred at 5:28:37 pm IST, with its epicentre located at 27.282°N latitude and 92.307°E longitude, also at a shallow depth of 5 kilometres.

Although both earthquakes were of low intensity and caused no reported damage, the back-to-back tremors have drawn attention to Arunachal Pradesh's location in a seismically active region, where minor earthquakes are relatively common.
