Itanagar, Jul 5: Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak on Sunday concluded his maiden two-day visit to Keyi Panyor and Lower Subansiri districts by announcing Lower Subansiri as his Parliamentary Nodal District and extending relief to families affected by the recent flash floods in Keyi Panyor.
The MP began his tour on Saturday by visiting the flash flood-hit areas of Possa and NEEPCO colony under Yazali circle along with MLAs Tai Nikio and Rotom Tebin. Interacting with displaced families at relief camps, Tagak expressed condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the June 24 disaster.
He handed over Rs 2.5 lakh each to Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung and Keyi Panyor Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, providing a total of Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia assistance of Rs 50,000 each to the families of the five flood victims. The contribution came in addition to the Rs 7 lakh emergency assistance he had extended to the district administration on June 30. He also assured that he would pursue long-term rehabilitation support for the affected families with the state and central governments.
Later, the MP participated in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' plantation drive at the ITI campus in Dilopolyang, Ziro, organised in collaboration with the Hong Dree Festival Committee to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. During the programme, he encouraged students and youths to embrace innovation, entrepreneurship and contribute towards building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
On Sunday, Tagak visited Achukuru (Mother's Home) in Old Ziro, which provides shelter, care and education to orphaned, homeless and destitute women and children. Appreciating the humanitarian service of its founder, Tailyang Santi, he donated mattresses, fruits and Rs 1 lakh in cash to the institution. He also assured support for improving road connectivity to the Home.
The MP later attended the 37th Dree Festival celebration at Hanoko Ground in Hong village as the chief guest. He paid tribute to the Dree Nyibus (traditional priests) for preserving Apatani culture and felicitated meritorious Class X and XII students of Hong village.
During the programme, Tagak officially declared Lower Subansiri district as his Parliamentary Nodal District, stating that he would work closely with local legislator and district authorities to promote coordinated development in the region.
He also launched a digital directory prepared by the Ziro Tourism Organisation to promote local tourism and donated Rs 2.5 lakh to the Dree Festival Celebration Committee through Niiti ZPM-cum-organising secretary Kago Kampu. The MP further announced the donation of a mithun for next year's Dree Festival celebration.
Tagak said his priority would be to combine humanitarian support, sustainable development, youth empowerment and preservation of the region's rich cultural heritage.
