KHONSA, Jul 5: The Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a security meeting with representatives of villages along the Indo-Myanmar border at Wakka town in Longding district on Saturday to strengthen coordination with border communities and promote awareness on border management.
During the meeting, Assam Rifles officials briefed participants on issues relating to the Free Movement Regime (FMR), designated border crossing points and the proposed border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border. They explained the rationale behind these measures while acknowledging the long-standing familial, cultural and traditional ties shared by communities living on both sides of the international border.
The meeting also provided villagers with an opportunity to raise concerns and seek clarifications on issues affecting their daily lives.
The Assam Rifles reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining close engagement with local communities and emphasised that public cooperation is vital for effective border management and long-term regional stability.
The participants welcomed the initiative and expressed their willingness to continue cooperating with the security forces in maintaining peace, security and harmony along the border.
The programme concluded with both the Assam Rifles and the border communities reaffirming their commitment to strengthening mutual trust and cooperation for a secure and peaceful border region. (DIPRO)
