BOLENG, Jul 7: In a latest development, a total of 981 villagers from six villages in Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang district signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on Tuesday in support of the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) for the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP).
The signing programme was held at the Siang Deputy Commissioner’s office in Boleng under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu.
The signatories included 544 villagers from Riga, 88 from Parong, 68 from Sitang, 160 from Riew, 26 from Begging, and 95 from Pangkang (Jorkong) village.
Officials described the exercise as one of the largest single-day MoU signing events related to the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project, reflecting growing public participation in the consultative process.
The district administration said it has been engaging with village councils, Gaon Burahs and local residents to ensure informed and voluntary participation as the project progresses through the pre-feasibility stage.
Officials associated with the process noted that the growing number of MoUs signed across villages in the Siang belt points to a wider acceptance of the consultative process being carried out by the district administration ahead of the finalisation of the Pre-Feasibility Report.
The Siang Upper Multipurpose Project is considered as one of the major proposed infrastructure projects in the region, and the ongoing PFR-related consultations are being closely monitored by the administration and concerned agencies. Officials said that continued engagement with village communities remains a priority as the project moves through its pre-feasibility stage. (DIPRO)
