ITANAGAR, Jul 8: The Arunachal Pradesh Tribal Movement (APTM) on Wednesday reiterated its demand for strict action against all those allegedly involved in the purported Rs 270-crore Fisheries Department scam that purportedly took place between 2012 and 2017.
Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here, APTM president Likha Tolum expressed disappointment over what he described as the state government's silence despite the organisation submitting a representation on the matter. Claiming that the government was aware of the issue, Tolum alleged that attempts were being made to suppress the matter.
He said two FIRs have already been registered in connection with the alleged scam—one in Lower Subansiri district and another in Kra Daadi district, and maintained that the case has not received adequate public attention.
The organisation said that irregularities in the Fisheries Department had caused substantial financial loss to the state exchequer and urged the government to take immediate action against those involved.
According to Tolum, the APTM has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister seeking a time-bound probe, stringent legal action against those responsible and systemic reforms to ensure transparency and accountability in the department.
The organisation also announced that it is preparing to launch a democratic movement to press for its demands.
