PASIGHAT, Jul 9: A day after inspecting flood damage in worst affected Keyi Panyor district, the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday conducted an extensive assessment of flood-hit areas in East Siang and Lower Siang districts to evaluate the damage caused by recent floods and appraise the requirement for additional central assistance.
The central team, led by Joint Secretary (MHA) Nishtha Tiwari, was accompanied by State’s Disaster Management Secretary Dani Salu.
The team inspected several flood-affected locations, beginning with the Integrated Farm of Olik Tapok Taloh at Ledum village, where extensive damage to agricultural land and infrastructure was reported. It also inspected Rema Bridge under Korang circle, Tene Bridge under Koyu circle in Lower Siang district, and Remi Bridge in East Siang district to assess the impact of floodwaters on critical public infrastructure and connectivity.
During the visit, officials of the district administration and line departments briefed the team on the extent of the destruction, restoration measures undertaken, and the immediate and long-term requirements for rehabilitation and reconstruction. The team also interacted with local residents, PRI members and affected farmers to obtain first-hand accounts of the impact of the floods.
The assessment team was accompanied by Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering, Nari-Koyu MLA Tojir Kadu, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Ruth Tabing Boko, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ruksin, and officials from various departments.
The IMCT appreciated the prompt rescue, relief and restoration efforts undertaken by the district administration despite adverse weather conditions and assured that its findings would be compiled into a detailed report for consideration by the Government of India while evaluating additional financial assistance for the affected areas, officials said.
