APTEA begins indefinite pen-down strike

ITANAGAR, Jul 9: The Arunachal Pradesh Teacher Educators’ Association (APTEA) on Thursday launched an indefinite pen-down strike across all 11 District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Itanagar, demanding regular salary disbursement through the state exchequer.

The third phase of the protest is being carried out under the "No Pay, No Work" principle.

In a statement, the Association said its members would abstain from all official duties, including classroom teaching, academic activities, training programmes, administrative work, examinations, evaluation of answer scripts and other institutional responsibilities until their demand is addressed.

APTEA warned that the strike is likely to disrupt the admission process for the first semester of the Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd), regular classes for third-semester students, teachers’ training programmes and evaluation of answer scripts for the second and fourth semester DElEd examinations conducted in June this year.

Expressing disappointment over the government's response, APTEA said that despite repeated representations, meetings, appeals and peaceful democratic protests, no concrete solution had been offered to resolve the long-pending issue.

The Association urged the state government to take immediate and decisive steps to address the matter in the interest of the institutions, employees, students and the state's education sector.
