ITANAGAR, Jul 10: The Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACC&I) has assumed the administration of the Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) following an order passed by the Civil Judge (Junior Division), Yupia, in Title Suit No. 15/26 on June 25, 2026.
Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here on Friday, ACC&I president Dr Tarh Nachung said the chamber had complied with the court's directive and taken over the affairs of IMWA.
He announced the appointment of Azad Bagang as president and Biri Kame as secretary general to oversee the administration of the association with immediate effect until disposal of the title suit.
Nachung also urged the state government to restore the non-functional CCTV cameras installed across Itanagar to strengthen security and surveillance. He further requested the newly appointed office-bearers to constitute sub-executive committees for the smooth functioning of IMWA.
ACC&I legal adviser Tarh Loma said the court had suspended the powers and functions of the existing IMWA executive committee. He informed that the title suit was filed by Lindum Tarium, alleging that the previous executive members had continued beyond their prescribed tenure.
According to the petitioner, the previous executive had remained in office for four years, four months and eight days, exceeding the three-year tenure prescribed under both the old and revised bylaws.
Meanwhile, after assuming charge, the new IMWA executive announced a blanket ban on the collection of donations from the business community across the Itanagar Capital Region.
The new office-bearers said any union or association seeking grants-in-aid or donations from traders and business establishments must obtain prior approval from the IMWA executive.
