ITANAGAR, Jul 10: The Arunachal Frontier Tribal Front (AFTF) has rejected the state government's six-member committee constituted to examine the abolition of the 80:20 job recruitment ratio, terming it an "eyewash."
Speaking to reporters at the Arunachal Press Club on Friday, AFTF chairman Tadak Nalo said that on July 6, the state government constituted a six-member committee with Industries Minister Nyato Dukam as the chairman to examine the feasibility and methodology for the abolition of the 80:20 reservation ratio in state government recruitment, and for making PRC and APST certificate mandatory in all competitive exams.
He alleged that the committee, headed by Nyato Dukam, was similar to one constituted in 2022 under the chairmanship of then Education Minister Taba Tedir, whose recommendations were never implemented.
He claimed that although the earlier committee had submitted its report to the Chief Secretary in 2024, no action had been taken on it.
Nalo said the AFTF had planned to launch a democratic movement with a mass rally in Itanagar on July 11, but the event had to be postponed after permission was denied by the Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar Capital Region.
He alleged that while permission had been obtained from the Superintendent of Police and the Itanagar Municipal Corporation, the district administration denied approval for the rally.
The organisation has now given the government one month's time to issue a notification making Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) mandatory for candidates appearing in the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB) examinations.
Nalo urged the government to use the recommendations of the earlier committee instead of constituting a fresh panel. He warned that if no action is taken by August 10, the AFTF would launch a statewide agitation.
The organisation also appealed to the government not to issue any APPSC recruitment advertisement until a notification mandating ST and PRC requirements for applicants is issued.
