YAZALI, Jul 10: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) on Thursday distributed relief assistance worth over Rs 25 lakh to families affected by the recent cloudburst at Possa and NEEPCO Colony in Keyi Panyor district, while several organisations also extended financial and material support to the disaster-hit communities.
The AAPSU relief mission was led by president Meje Taku and general secretary Mato Bui, alongwith executive members and representatives of district students' unions from across the state. Local MLA Toko Tatung, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Nabam Piju, Zilla Parishad Members and other local leaders also joined the outreach.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, the AAPSU leadership assured the affected people of the union's continued support during the recovery process.
Under the relief package, the union provided Rs one lakh to each family that lost a member in the tragedy, Rs 70,000 to families whose houses were completely destroyed and Rs 50,000 to those whose houses suffered partial damage. Essential relief materials, including food items, vegetables, clothing, drinking water and other daily necessities, were also distributed.
The relief fund was mobilised through a statewide voluntary donation drive. A verified list of beneficiaries and the corresponding financial assistance was handed over to ZPC Nabam Piju to ensure transparent distribution.
After meeting the immediate needs of the affected families, AAPSU contributed the remaining Rs 8.40 lakh to the MLA Relief Care Fund to support ongoing rehabilitation efforts.
The delegation also assessed damage to electricity, drinking water, ration supply, healthcare and other essential services, and said it would pursue the matter with the state government for early restoration.
Meanwhile, the State Scout & Guide Fellowship (SGF), Arunachal Pradesh, extended financial assistance to the affected families under the guidance of Director of Secondary Education and President-in-Chief of the State SGF, Tanyang Tatak.
The initiative was coordinated by State Training Commissioner (Guides), Kempi Pakam, along with other SGF office-bearers. The assistance was formally handed over to MLA Toko Tatung for distribution among the affected families.
In another relief initiative, the Arunachal Bullet Club distributed Rs 1.5 lakh in direct cash assistance to affected families besides providing solar lanterns, umbrellas, buckets and mugs to help them cope with continuing power outages and adverse weather conditions. The relief drive was carried out in coordination with the district administration.
Community support also poured in from East Siang district, where Recovering Warriors, a support group of recovering addiction survivors from Oyan, raised Rs 89,100 through a three-day donation drive led by former ZPM Bimol Lego and Bobita Bori, GB of Oyan.
The Adi Artists Association (AAA), East Siang, further contributed Rs 50,000, which was deposited directly into the bank account of the Deputy Commissioner of Keyi Panyor district for relief and rehabilitation.
The series of initiatives highlighted the collective response of student organisations, social groups, community organisations and volunteers from across Arunachal Pradesh in supporting families affected by the devastating flash floods and cloudburst in Keyi Panyor district.
