NAMSAI, Jul 10: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein called upon the youth to preserve their rich cultural heritage while striving for academic excellence and embracing entrepreneurship.
Addressing the Annual Felicitation Programme 2026 organised by the All Tai Khamti Singpho Students' Union (ATKSSU) in Namsai on Friday, Mein felicitated meritorious students for their academic achievements.
He urged the younger generation to take pride in the history, language, customs and traditions of the Tai Khamti and Singpho communities and ensure that their cultural legacy is preserved for future generations.
Emphasising the importance of education, Mein said academic excellence should remain the foremost priority for students. However, he encouraged them to become job creators by exploring entrepreneurship and opportunities in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, noting that government employment alone cannot meet everyone's aspirations.
The Deputy Chief Minister also stressed the need to document the contributions of unsung heroes, freedom fighters and community elders, and to preserve the history associated with temples and other places of cultural significance.
He urged the student union to continue promoting education, preserving cultural identity and motivating young people to become responsible citizens.
Congratulating the award recipients, Mein expressed confidence that they would continue to excel in their studies while contributing meaningfully to society and preserving their cultural heritage.
He also commended the ATKSSU for encouraging academic excellence and inspiring students to remain rooted in their traditions.
