Three, including IRBn jawan, arrested in Boleng drug bust; Natung hails cops

ITANAGAR, Jul 11: The Siang District Police, in coordination with the West Siang Anti-Drug Squad (ADS), arrested three persons, including two women and an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) personnel, during a major anti-narcotics operation at Boleng in Siang district on Thursday night, a senior police officer said on Saturday.

The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Siang Superintendent of Police JK Lego and the direct guidance of SDPO Y Yangi. The police team was led by Boleng Police Station Officer-in-Charge SI T Padung.

Acting on specific intelligence about the movement of suspected drug traffickers from Aalo to Boleng to collect contraband, the police set up strategic naka checking points and intercepted the suspects.

The search and seizure were carried out in the presence of Circle Officer cum Executive Magistrate Niyang Pertin and independent witnesses, in compliance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Police recovered 10.74 grams of suspected heroin (brown sugar), 1.22 grams of suspected opium, 11 OST (Bupet-N) tablets, and Rs 12,030 in cash, suspected to be proceeds of drug trafficking.

However, the identities of the arrested persons have not been disclosed by the police.

A case has been registered at Boleng Police Station under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.

Reiterating its commitment to combating drug trafficking, the Siang Police appealed to the public to share credible information on illegal narcotics activities to help safeguard the youth from the menace of drug abuse.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Mama Natung lauded the Siang Police and the West Siang ADS Team for the successful operation. He commended the police personnel for their professionalism and reaffirmed the State government's resolve to intensify the fight against drug trafficking and build a drug-free society.
