JANG, Jul 14: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tawang, on Tuesday organised an input distribution-cum-ICAR Foundation Day programme at Jang to commemorate the Foundation Day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and promote scientific and sustainable farming practices among local farmers.
A total of 57 farmers from Yuthumbu and Dungse villages under the Jang–Thingbu Block participated in the programme and interacted with KVK scientists on various aspects of modern agriculture.
Addressing the gathering, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Tawang, Dr Anjanand Tripathy highlighted ICAR's pivotal role in transforming Indian agriculture through research, innovation and technology dissemination. He outlined the organisation's contributions to agriculture, horticulture, fisheries and animal husbandry, stressing the importance of scientific interventions in improving farmers' livelihoods and ensuring food security.
During the technical sessions, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) CK Singh delivered a lecture on the management of acidic soils and shared practical recommendations for improving soil health and crop productivity.
SMS (Plant Protection) Lakshmipriya Borah explained biological methods of managing insect pests and crop diseases, encouraging farmers to adopt eco-friendly and sustainable plant protection practices.
SMS (Horticulture) Dr Abhimanyu Chaturvedi spoke on scientific cultivation practices for fruits and vegetables, covering improved production technologies, nutrient management and other best agronomic practices for achieving higher yields and better-quality produce.
As part of the programme, quality seeds of garden pea and cabbage, sponsored by ICAR–Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan (VPKAS), Almora, were distributed to all participating farmers to promote vegetable cultivation and enhance farm productivity in the region.
The programme concluded with an interactive session during which farmers sought expert guidance on crop management and other agricultural issues. KVK Tawang reiterated its commitment to strengthening farmers' capacities through scientific knowledge, quality inputs and continuous extension support for sustainable agricultural development in the district.
