Itanagar, Jul 15: Urban Affairs Minister Balo Raja on Wednesday reviewed the status of the proposed creation of four new municipalities at Ziro, Namsai, Aalo and Tawang, as envisaged by Chief Minister Pema Khandu to strengthen urban governance while keeping the aspirations and interests of local communities at the forefront.
Chairing a review meeting, the Minister assessed the progress made by the respective district administrations and deliberated on the roadmap for expediting the process of constituting the new Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
Emphasising the importance of public participation and consensus-building, Raja directed the Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts to conduct extensive public consultations and take all stakeholders into confidence before finalising the proposals.
The Minister further instructed the Deputy Commissioners to expedite all required formalities and complete the requisite processes by August 15, 2026, so that the creation of the new municipalities can be taken forward in a time-bound manner.
Raja said the proposed municipalities would play a key role in strengthening urban governance, improving civic service delivery and promoting planned and sustainable urban development in the State's emerging urban centres.
The meeting was attended by Itanagar MLA and Advisor to the Minister (Urban Affairs) Techi Kaso, Commissioner (Urban Affairs) Vivek Pandey, Director of Urban Local Bodies Hano Takka, Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts and other officials. The Deputy Commissioner of Tawang attended the meeting virtually.
