Former PMC Chief Councillor Denong Tamuk passes away

PASIGHAT, Jul 15: Former Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) Chief Councillor Denong Tamuk passed away at his residence in Banskota, Pasighat, on Wednesday morning after a prolonged illness. He was 68.

Tamuk, the first Chief Councillor of the Pasighat Municipal Council, was widely respected for his contribution to grassroots governance and urban development in East Siang district.

During his tenure, he played a pioneering role in strengthening municipal governance by improving civic infrastructure, streamlining waste management and promoting planned urban development in Pasighat.

Even after leaving office, Tamuk remained actively involved in community service and continued to guide socio-political initiatives in the district. Known for his accessibility and humility, he was often consulted by youth organisations and community leaders on public welfare issues.

Paying tribute, Pasighat East MLA Tapi Darang described Tamuk as a dedicated public servant whose contribution to strengthening urban governance and the growth of Pasighat would always be remembered.

Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee president and former minister Bosiram Siram mourned the loss of his longtime friend, saying Tamuk had been a trusted companion and steadfast supporter throughout his political journey.

Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering and Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng, in separate condolence messages, said Tamuk's legacy of grassroots leadership and commitment to community development would continue to inspire future generations.

Born on June 3, 1958, at Gune village to late Tanyo Tamuk and late Ludam Perme Tamuk, he dedicated his life to public service with sincerity and humility. He is survived by his two wives, sons, daughters and grandchildren. His last rites will be performed at his native Gune village on Thursday.
