Daporijo, Jul 16: The Upper Subansiri district administration on Thursday reviewed monsoon-related damage reporting and disaster preparedness, with Deputy Commissioner Tasso Gambo directing all departments to ensure timely, accurate and coordinated reporting for effective disaster response.
The review meeting, held at the DC's chamber in the District Secretariat, was attended by administrative officers, heads of line departments and other concerned officials.
The District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) gave an overview of the functioning of the District Disaster Management Office and briefed participants on funding provisions, disaster response guidelines and norms for assessing losses caused by landslides, floods, damage to public infrastructure, agriculture and private property.
Heads of various departments presented reports on damages sustained in their respective sectors due to the ongoing monsoon. The meeting also discussed discrepancies in damage reporting and stressed the need for uniformity, accuracy and timely submission of verified reports to facilitate prompt relief and government assistance.
Officials highlighted several challenges, including difficulty in accessing remote and affected areas because of road blockages and adverse weather, as well as limited funds for immediate restoration of damaged infrastructure and essential public services before disaster relief assistance is received.
Addressing the meeting, the DC directed all administrative officers and HoDs to remain stationed in their respective jurisdictions during the monsoon season and maintain close coordination with field-level officials.
He instructed departments to immediately report incidents of landslides, floods, road blockages, infrastructure damage and other emergencies to the district administration to enable swift response and coordinated action.
The DC further stressed that all damage assessments must be based on proper field verification and submitted in the prescribed format to ensure transparency, accountability and eliminate discrepancies in reporting.
Calling for heightened vigilance throughout the monsoon season, he urged all departments to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and work proactively to protect lives, property and public infrastructure.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to improve the district's disaster reporting mechanism through timely and coordinated reporting to ensure effective response, faster restoration and prompt assistance to affected communities. (DIPRO)
