Itanagar, Jul 25: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Bhalukpong Police has seized 155.105 kgs of suspected cannabis worth about Rs 78 lakh from a Mahindra Bolero car, police said on Saturday.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of West Kameng Superintendent of Police Dr DW Thungon, and the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police, Bhalukpong, Mayank Dubey, on July 24.
According to police, the white Bolero (AS01GS-9497) attempted to evade checking at the Inner Line Permit (ILP) Check Gate by turning back towards Bomdila. Police pursued the vehicle, during which one of the occupants fled on foot towards the SSB Colony.
The abandoned vehicle was later located near Kameng Inn Hotel in Upper Bhalukpong. After obtaining the required authorization, a police team conducted a search in the presence of independent witnesses and recovered 31 plastic bags containing 155.105 kg of suspected cannabis.
The seized contraband and the vehicle were sealed following legal procedures, while the search and seizure process was documented through the e-Sakshya App.
A case has been registered under Section 20(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the absconding driver and other suspected accomplices.
Police said the seizure marks a significant success in the ongoing drive against illegal narcotics and reaffirmed their commitment to taking strict action against drug trafficking. They also appealed to the public to share any information related to illegal narcotics activities to help curb the drug menace in the region.
