Itanagar, Jul 26: Continuing its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking, the Special Action Team (SAT) of Itanagar Capital Police arrested a woman suspected of peddling heroin during an operation conducted at Mithun Happa Colony in Chimpu. The identity of the accused has been withheld as the investigation is ongoing, police said on Sunday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, an SAT team comprising SI Tejab Tadar, head constable Tashi Wangchu, constables Tasso Taser and Jumter Romin, and lady constable Dulley Yashing on Friday carried out the operation under the supervision of the DySP (HQ), ICR. The team intercepted the suspect near her rented accommodation at Mithun Happa Colony.
During questioning, the woman allegedly disclosed that she had concealed narcotic substances and other incriminating materials inside a black polythene bag hidden beneath a stack of old wood within the compound of her rented house.
Following due legal procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, police conducted a search in the presence of two independent witnesses and recovered 36 plastic vials containing suspected heroin weighing 46 grams (including the weight of the containers), 11 empty plastic vials, and three used syringes. The search and seizure proceedings were documented through photographs and videography using the e-Sakshya App.
A case has been registered at Chimpu Police Station under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985. Police said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and ascertain whether the accused is linked to a larger drug trafficking network.
Capital Police appreciated the support extended by youth leaders, ward members and local residents in its anti-drug campaign, stating that community participation remains crucial in making the Itanagar Capital Region safer and drug-free.
