ITANAGAR, Jul 27: An AICTE-approved eight-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Universal Human Values (UHV) commenced at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli, on Monday with an emphasis on strengthening value-based education in higher learning institutions.
Organised by the UHV Cell of NERIST, the programme will run until August 3 with the objective of integrating Universal Human Values into higher education and promoting ethical and socially responsible academic practices.
The inaugural ceremony began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Delivering the welcome address, Dr Akbari Jahan, coordinator of the UHV Cell, outlined the programme's objectives.
Dean (Academic) and convener of the UHV Cell, Prof Sarsing Gao, highlighted the importance of value-based education in technical institutions and stressed the crucial role of faculty members in nurturing responsible professionals with ethical competence and human values.
Resource person from NCC-IP, AICTE, Prof Himanshu Kumar Rai, said the FDP is designed not only to familiarise participants with the philosophy and content of Universal Human Values but also to equip them with effective pedagogical approaches for integrating these values into classroom teaching and institutional practices.
Addressing the participants, NERIST Director and Chairperson of the UHV Cell, Prof Narendranath S, underscored the importance of holistic education that combines technical excellence with ethical responsibility, mutual respect and concern for society. He encouraged faculty members to actively participate in the programme and apply the knowledge gained in their academic and professional responsibilities.
During the eight-day programme, participants will take part in interactive sessions, reflective discussions, experiential learning activities and deliberations on the philosophical foundations and practical applications of Universal Human Values.
The programme aims to empower educators to integrate value-based education into technical curricula and contribute to building a humane, ethical and socially responsible academic environment.
