Itanagar/Khonsa, Jul 29: Arunachal Pradesh Police, in separate anti-narcotics operations carried out in Naharlagun and Tirap, arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized suspected heroin, reaffirming the state's intensified crackdown on drug trafficking.
In the first operation, Naharlagun Police arrested an alleged drug peddler and seized 13.69 grams of suspected heroin during a late-evening raid at Harekmaal Basti in Model Village, Naharlagun.
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team led by Naharlagun Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector Krishnendu Dev conducted a search at the residence of the accused, Md Atikul Islam (35), on Tuesday. During the search, police recovered 13.69 grams of suspected heroin, including the weight of the containers.
A case has been registered at Naharlagun Police Station under Sections 21(b), 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act vide NLG/PS Case No. 92/2026. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Dr Nyelam Nega said the Capital Police remain committed to eliminating the drug menace and would continue sustained action against drug trafficking and peddling.
In another operation, Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Arunachal Pradesh Police, apprehended an alleged drug peddler at Horu Chingchan in Tirap district based on specific intelligence inputs.
The accused, identified as Yangli Jangnyo (29) of Upper Chinghan village, was apprehended during the joint operation conducted on July 28. The accused person, along with the recovered items, was handed over to the Arunachal Pradesh Police for further investigation and legal action.
Officials said the successful operation highlighted the close coordination between Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Police in combating narcotics trafficking. They reiterated their resolve to intensify anti-drug operations to curb the illegal trade and maintain law and order across Arunachal Pradesh.
