Itanagar, Jul 30: In a significant boost to cross-border trade and regional economic cooperation, Arunachal Pradesh Trade & Commerce Minister Nyato Dukam on Thursday inaugurated the resumed Indo-Myanmar Border Haat at Pangsau Pass in Nampong, marking the revival of a key trade link between the two neighbouring countries.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister highlighted the pivotal role of trade and commerce in accelerating the region's economic growth and urged all stakeholders including local communities, traders and administrative authorities to actively participate in making border trade a sustainable source of livelihood.
Emphasising the historic and strategic significance of Pangsau Pass, Dukam announced the government's vision to establish a proposed Land Port at Nampong, which he said would strengthen cross-border connectivity, facilitate trade and further enhance economic opportunities in the region.
"The Border Haat should become a vibrant centre of economic activity, benefiting local traders and fostering stronger people-to-people ties across the border," the Minister said.
The inauguration event was attended by MLA Laisam Simai, Advisor to the Minister for Trade & Commerce Dr Mohesh Chai, Trade & Commerce Secretary Bullo Mamu, Director Toko Togur, Commandant of 21 Assam Rifles Col Amit Mane, Zilla Parishad Members from Nampong, Rima-Putok, Manmao and Jairampur, along with senior civil and security officials.
A delegation from Myanmar, including the Town Chairman of Pangsau town, representatives of the Myanmar Army and Police, and members of the United Tangshang Committee and the local Bazar Committee, also participated in the event, reflecting the shared commitment of both sides to strengthening bilateral cooperation and border trade.
The resumption of the Indo-Myanmar Border Haat is expected to augment local livelihoods, promote cultural exchanges and pave the way for expanded commercial activities between communities on both sides of the international border.
Local MLA Laisam Simai welcomed the resumption of the Border Haat, describing it as a significant step towards promoting trade, strengthening local livelihoods and enhancing cultural ties between the neighbouring communities.
Officials informed that the Border Haat will now be held regularly on the 10th, 20th and 30th of every month, providing a structured platform for cross-border commerce and interaction.
