4-day training programs on ‘Water Management and SUMP’ conclude

BOLENG, Jul 31: A four-day training and orientation programmes on Water Management and Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) concluded at the DC’s office here today.

Bringing together teachers, CDPOs, ANMs, Health Assistants, Anganwadi & ASHA workers, and departmental officers & staff, with combined participation of approximately 240 attendees across the four sessions, the programmes aimed to build a clear understanding of SUMP as a project of national importance, while covering water resource management, conservation techniques and the broader developmental benefits the project is expected to bring to the region.

Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu, who was present at all four sessions, underlined the importance of sustainable water resource management and informed, transparent public participation in the SUMP.

Siang District Planning Officer Tapik Komut, who was a key resource person across all four sessions, spoke on the significance of community awareness in the project and, together with officials from NHPC, guided participants on water conservation and river basin management.

Tabom Taggu, Group Senior Manager NHPC, delivered a detailed presentation on river management, water conservation, benefits of the project and SUMP at each of the four sessions. He, along with the other resource persons, responded to questions from participants and took part in discussions on various aspects of the project.

Additional resource persons included Tanom Tatak, AE (Civil), Dept of Hydro Power Development, who took part in the July 28 session for teachers, and Dr Johny Darang, District Medical Officer, who contributed to the July 30 session for ANM workers, Health Assistants and ASHAs by addressing queries and leading discussions.

Across the four sessions, discussions consistently underlined the “wider” significance of SUMP, particularly its expected contribution to regional stability, infrastructure growth, and long-term sustainable development. (DIPRO)
