Itanagar, Aug 1: The Union Government on Saturday released an additional instalment of Rs 1,09,019 crore as tax devolution to states, over and above the regular monthly transfer scheduled for August 10, to accelerate capital expenditure and development works.
In a statement, the Union Finance Ministry said the advance release is aimed at providing states with greater fiscal space to fast-track infrastructure projects and welfare programmes.
According to the state-wise allocation, Uttar Pradesh received the highest share of Rs 19,208 crore, followed by Bihar with Rs 10,845 crore and Madhya Pradesh with Rs 8,010 crore. Among the Northeastern states, Assam received the highest allocation of Rs 3,552 crore, while Arunachal Pradesh was allotted Rs 1,476 crore.
Reacting to the announcement, Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the advance release, describing it as a reaffirmation of the spirit of cooperative federalism.
Khandu said the allocation of Rs 1,476 crore is particularly significant for Arunachal Pradesh, given its strategic importance, difficult terrain and sparse population. He noted that on a per capita basis, the state continues to receive one of the highest shares among Indian states, reflecting the Finance Commission's recognition of its unique geographical and infrastructure challenges.
The Chief Minister said the timely release would strengthen the state's financial position and enable faster implementation of capital projects, infrastructure development and public welfare initiatives that directly benefit the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
