Itanagar, Aug 2: Arunachal Pradesh’s off-road motorsport enthusiasts scripted history by securing a remarkable double podium finish at the Rainforest Challenge (RFC) India 2026, held in Goa from July 26 to August 1.
Team Moca emerged as champions in the prestigious 4x4 Extreme category, while Team X treme Arunachal finished runners-up in the highly competitive 4x4 Stock category, reaffirming the state’s growing presence in India’s off-road racing circuit.
Representing Team Moca, driver Ujjal Namshum and co-driver Chetthan Chengappa claimed the championship title after delivering exceptional performances marked by precise driving, tactical decision-making and outstanding teamwork throughout the week-long competition.
In the premier 4x4 Stock category, Team X treme Arunachal's driver Naku Hage Chada and co-driver Loda Punyo secured second place after overcoming demanding challenges that included steep hill climbs, deep mud pits, water crossings, technical recovery sections and endurance-based obstacle courses.
The achievement highlights Arunachal Pradesh’s growing stature in Indian off-road motorsports and the Northeast’s emergence as a strong contender in one of the country’s most physically and technically demanding sporting disciplines.
Team X treme Arunachal Group Leader Jaong Mirip Singpho described the accomplishment as a proud moment for the state.
“Representing Arunachal Pradesh at a prestigious national event like the Rainforest Challenge is itself a matter of immense pride. Winning a podium finish has made the experience even more memorable,” he said.
Singpho said the team travelled from Itanagar to Goa with a clear objective of delivering its best performance.
“Our driver Naku Hage Chada and co-driver Loda Punyo gave their absolute best to secure the top position. Although we narrowly missed the championship, we are satisfied with our performance and determined to return stronger in the next edition,” he added.
Describing RFC India as the toughest motorsport event the team has participated in, Singpho said every stage pushed both the competitors and their vehicles to the limit.
"Among all the motorsport events we have participated in, the Rainforest Challenge is by far the toughest. Every stage pushes both the machine and the competitors to their limits. The experience has been incredibly valuable, giving us greater confidence and preparedness for future competitions," he said.
Organised by Cougar Motorsport, the 12th edition of RFC India is recognised as India's toughest off-road motorsport competition and is ranked among the world's top ten toughest motor races. Part of the internationally acclaimed Rainforest Challenge global series, the event attracted elite off-road competitors from across the country.
The championship featured multiple categories, including 4x4 Extreme, 4x4 Modified and 4x4 Stock, with competitors tested through specially designed stages assessing precision driving, navigation, recovery techniques, endurance and teamwork under extreme terrain conditions.
