Itanagar, Aug 3: The Banderdewa Police arrested a 23-year-old man from Assam and seized 9.29 grams of suspected heroin during a mid-night operation on Sunday.
Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Dr Nyelam Nega said acting on credible information, the police intercepted and apprehended Rohit Borah (23), a resident of No. 1 Parbotipur under Laluk Police Station in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, at around 11.49 pm.
The operation was led by Banderdewa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector Kipa Hamak and carried out by a team comprising SI Yon Yao, ASI A Rajbhar, head constables Gyammar Kayung and Tade Bomdom, and constable T Tsering. During the search, the team recovered 9.29 grams of suspected heroin allegedly concealed inside the accused’s undergarment.
Following the seizure, Banderdewa Police registered a case under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act and subsequently arrested the accused.
Reiterating the police’s commitment to building a drug-free society, the SP stressed the importance of public participation in combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, spread awareness, and promptly report any drug-related activities to the police, emphasizing that community support is vital in the fight against narcotics.
