ICR to conduct Civil Defence Mock Drill on Aug 8; 15-min blackout, air raid siren planned

Itanagar, Aug 4: The Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) administration will conduct a Civil Defence Mock Drill across the capital region on Saturday, August 8, from 8 to 9 pm to assess emergency preparedness and strengthen coordination among government departments, security forces, emergency services and the public.

The main exercise will be held at Dera Natung Govt College (DNGC), Itanagar, while emergency response activities will be carried out across the ICR. As part of the drill, an Air Raid Siren will sound across the capital region at 8 pm for approximately two minutes, followed by a city-wide blackout from 8 to 8.15 pm.

The district administration has appealed to residents to switch off all lights, including inverter and rechargeable lights, close curtains and windows to prevent light from being visible outside, remain indoors, stay calm, and avoid panic during the blackout period.

Police and Fire Service vehicles fitted with sirens, along with the Itanagar Smart City Public Address (PA) System, will simultaneously sound sirens as part of the exercise. Traffic diversions and movement restrictions may also be imposed to facilitate emergency response operations, and the public has been requested to cooperate with the Traffic Police, Civil Defence volunteers and other officials.

Emergency vehicles will be given priority during the drill. Essential services, including hospitals, police establishments, emergency services and the district control room, will remain exempt from the blackout.

ICR Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu has also appealed to residents, commercial establishments, educational institutions, market associations, civil society organisations and media houses to extend full cooperation for the successful conduct of the mock drill and to help create awareness about emergency preparedness.

For any clarification or emergency assistance, the public may contact the ADC (HQ) at 94360 45552 or the District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO), ICR, at 87873 36331.
