Pasighat, Aug 6: The Arunachal Pradesh University Teachers' Association (APUTA) on Thursday renewed its demand for enhancing the retirement age of university teachers from 60 to 65 years in accordance with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines.
A delegation led by APUTA president Dr Eli Doye and general secretary Dr Lige Sora met Vice Chancellor Dr Milorai Modi and urged the university to take up the matter with the competent authorities.
The Association said it had submitted a memorandum to the Governor, who is the Chancellor of the university, on October 30 last year, but no tangible progress had been made so far.
APUTA maintained that the existing retirement age at Arunachal Pradesh University is not in conformity with UGC guidelines or the practice followed by most Central and State universities.
The Association reasoned that enhancement of the superannuation age would help retain experienced faculty, strengthen academic leadership, ensure continuity in teaching, research and administration, and provide mentoring support to young faculty members and research scholars.
Vice Chancellor Dr Milorai Modi assured the delegation that the matter would be examined positively and pursued with the appropriate authorities at the earliest.
