ITANAGAR, Aug 6: As part of its ‘commitment’ to community welfare and healthcare outreach, Siang Trust in association with NEIFMR (North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Folk Medicine Research) successfully organized free health camps at the calamity-hit Koyu and Kakki villages under Lower Siang district.
Koyu, Kakki villages and nearby areas were recently devastated by flash floods and landslides. Conducted to provide needful medical care to the affected villages, the free health camps witnessed an encouraging response from the local community, with around 140 patients, including senior citizens, women, children and other villagers, availing themselves of free medical services.
A team of five doctors, pharmacists led by Dr Saibal Bhattacharjee attended the camp. The medical team included Dr Nyaru Kadu, Medicine Specialist; Dr Runi Tasung; Dr Vivek Anand and Dr Susdev from NEIAFMR. The doctors provided medical consultations and distributed medicines free of cost to all patients.
In addition to consultations, various health screening services such as blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, and other basic health examinations were conducted. During the camp, several cases of hypertension, diabetes, and other diseases were identified. The affected individuals were advised to seek appropriate medical treatment and follow-up care.
The medical team also conducted awareness sessions to educate villagers about various government healthcare schemes and welfare programmes available for patients and the general public. The initiative helped enhance awareness regarding preventive healthcare and access to medical benefits.
Group Captain (rtd) Mohonto Panging Pao, president Siang Trust and its staff were present throughout the camp and played an active role in facilitating its smooth and successful conduct.
Meanwhile, the villagers have expressed their gratitude to Siang Trust and the medical team for bringing quality healthcare services at their doorstep and serving the community with dedication and compassion, especially during a time of natural disaster in the area.
