Itanagar, Aug 7: In a significant boost to peace and counter-insurgency efforts in the region, four active cadres of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), ULFA (I), surrendered before security forces during an operation in the Chupkhaw Track area under Wakka circle of Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district near the Indo-Myanmar border on Friday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Assam Rifles launched a well-planned operation in the area. Through sustained persuasion and confidence-building efforts, security personnel convinced the insurgents to shun violence and rejoin the national mainstream. The four cadres subsequently laid down their arms voluntarily.
The operation concluded peacefully without any exchange of fire or casualties, highlighting the effectiveness of Assam Rifles’ people-centric approach in tackling insurgency through dialogue, trust-building and rehabilitation.
During the surrender, security forces recovered four pistols and 17 rounds of live ammunition from the surrendered militants.
Officials said the surrender marks yet another important milestone in the ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the Indo-Myanmar border region. It also reaffirms Assam Rifles' commitment to encouraging misguided youth to return to the mainstream while maintaining a strong security presence in vulnerable areas.
