Itanagar, Aug 8: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik on Saturday reviewed the law and order situation in the State with Director General of Police (DGP) Dr SD Singh Jamwal and called for strengthening security preparedness and accelerating border fencing in the Tirap-Changlang-Longding region to check incidents of extortion and kidnapping.
The review meeting was held at Lok Bhavan here and covered the prevailing security environment, crime prevention, public safety, disaster preparedness and the overall readiness of the State Police to respond to emerging challenges.
The Governor stressed that a secure environment was essential for sustained socio-economic development and for realising the vision of a ‘Viksit Arunachal’.
During the meeting, Parnaik shared information about the ‘SURAKSHA APP’, which enables real-time security support to citizens in cities, and suggested that the application be studied for possible implementation in the State.
Discussing the security situation in the Tirap-Changlang-Longding (TCL) region, the Governor directed that fencing work along the Indo-Myanmar border be expedited to strengthen security and help prevent extortion and kidnapping incidents.
The Governor further advised the DGP to ensure that police personnel remain alert, well-equipped and prepared to undertake search-and-rescue operations during natural disasters including landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts, which frequently affect the state’s hilly terrain.
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining quick reaction teams, strengthening coordination among the police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district administrations and local communities, and conducting regular mock exercises to enhance disaster preparedness.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch, Dr Joy Tirkey, was also present at the meeting.
