ITANAGAR, Aug 8: The All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Welfare Society (AAPWWS) has raised serious questions over the legal procedure allegedly followed by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Yupia, Papum Pare, in releasing one of two minor children rescued from alleged child labour and exploitation.
AAPWWS chairman Jalley Sonam said the organisation had lodged a complaint at Doimukh Police Station on July 21 regarding the alleged employment of two minor children as child labourers, besides physical and mental exploitation and suspected trafficking.
Following the complaint, Doimukh Police rescued both children and, after completing the necessary legal formalities, handed them over to Oju Mission at Naharlagun, Sonam said.
However, he alleged that the CWC subsequently released one of the rescued children from Oju Mission without providing any information to the complainant regarding the circumstances or procedure followed in the release.
“We wanted to know the reason for the release and the present status of the child, but the CWC is not ready to share any information regarding the release or to whom the child was handed over,” Sonam said.
He questioned the lack of information despite AAPWWS being the complainant in the case. “We are involved in this case, so we have the right to know about the present status of the child,” he said.
Sonam further alleged that the CWC released the child without preparing a status report, raising concerns over whether the prescribed procedures for dealing with rescued children had been followed.
