Itanagar, Aug 9: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik, along with Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, on Sunday launched the statewide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign at the Banquet Hall here, coinciding with August Kranti Diwas, which marks the launch of the Quit India Movement by Mahatma Gandhi on August 9, 1942.
On the occasion, the Governor and the Chief Minister handed over the National Flag to youth and joined participants in singing the national song, ‘Vande Mataram’. Staff artistes of the Department of Art & Culture also presented patriotic performances as part of the fifth edition of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Parnaik called upon every citizen to proudly hoist the National Flag and actively participate in the campaign, describing it as a people’s movement that rekindles patriotism and strengthens emotional integration.
He said that as India moves towards the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’, patriotism must be reflected not only in words but also in responsible actions, including respect for the Constitution, protection of public property, environmental stewardship and dedicated service to society and the nation.
Reciting a self written poem on the patriotism of the people of Arunachal Pradesh, the Governor highlighted the profound significance of the Tiranga, describing it as a living symbol of India’s unity, sacrifice, aspirations and democratic values.
Recalling the historic significance of August 9, 1942, Parnaik said Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement on the day with the clarion call of “Do or Die”, inspiring millions of Indians to unite against colonial rule. The National Flag, he said, emerged as a powerful symbol of freedom, resilience and collective national purpose during the freedom struggle.
Emphasising Arunachal Pradesh’s role as the sentinel of India’s eastern frontier, the Governor said the people of the State have consistently demonstrated exemplary patriotism and dedication to safeguarding national unity and integrity.
He urged schools, colleges, youth organisations, self-help groups and community institutions to organise activities promoting patriotism, national awareness and civic responsibility. He also encouraged young people to greet one another with “Jai Hind”, describing it as a salutation embodying national pride, mutual respect and a shared commitment to the nation.
The Governor underscored the importance of strengthening emotional integration through dialogue and communication. While preserving and promoting Arunachal Pradesh’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage, he advocated greater use of Hindi as a language that connects people across regions and reinforces the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.
Calling upon citizens to honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters, Parnaik said the Tiranga has inspired generations of Indians, including soldiers guarding the nation’s borders, scientists contributing to national progress and sportspersons representing India on global platforms.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu said the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign was much more than a flag-hoisting initiative, describing it as a nationwide endeavour to deepen patriotism, strengthen national unity and foster a stronger bond with the values that define India.
He said the Tricolour remains a timeless symbol of courage, sacrifice and dedication, honouring the countless freedom fighters who secured the nation’s independence. The flag also reminds every citizen of the responsibility to uphold the ideals of democracy, unity and progress, he added.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein paid tribute to the unsung heroes of Arunachal Pradesh who contributed to India’s freedom struggle. He said love for the nation is deeply ingrained in the people of the State and that the spirit of “Jai Hind” resonates in every Arunachali heart.
Mein said the Tiranga remains a source of immense pride and continues to inspire citizens to remain committed to the nation’s growth, unity and integrity.
Minister of Art & Culture, Women & Child Development, Science & Technology Dasanglu Pul; Chief Secretary-in-Charge Saugat Biswas; and Secretary, Art & Culture, Mamata Riba Naksang, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of the campaign in fostering patriotism, strengthening national unity and encouraging citizens to celebrate India’s rich heritage and democratic values.
As part of the programme, the Governor and Chief Minister felicitated ex-servicemen and Gaon Burahs in recognition of their service to the nation and contributions to society.
Senior artist Mibi Nyodu Taring and Nachat Munham of the Department of Art & Culture presented soulful patriotic songs, while Pil Jamja, accompanied by Jaahunghaam Aanok Wangsa, performed a violin rendition that added to the patriotic fervour of the celebration.
The programme was attended by State Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte, Ministers Mama Natung and Balo Raja, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, legislators, senior civil and police officers, ex-servicemen, Gaon Burahs, members of youth organisations and students.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is being organised by the Department of Art & Culture, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India. The campaign will culminate on August 17.
