Itanagar, Aug 11: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly disrupting Parliament, changing his demands and resorting to what it described as misleading political narratives.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP State Headquarters here, party's state vice president Ashok Sangchoju alleged that Gandhi's conduct was undermining the dignity and decorum of Parliament and preventing meaningful democratic debate.
“For the past several days, the nation has witnessed repeated attempts to hijack parliamentary proceedings. Rahul Gandhi keeps changing his demands and goalposts. His politics appears focused not on constructive dialogue but on creating disruption and confusion,” Sangchoju said.
He claimed that Gandhi had initially demanded the resignation of the Union Education Minister and later sought a discussion on the NEET issue in Parliament. The government, he said, agreed to a comprehensive discussion and also took steps to strengthen legislation against examination paper leaks.
Sangchoju alleged that after the issue was addressed, the Congress raised another demand concerning a statement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah relating to students protests at Jantar Mantar.
“The government has made it clear that it is ready to discuss every issue and answer every question. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has also made it clear that the Home Minister is ready to respond. Then why is Rahul Gandhi changing his demand again?” he asked.
The BJP leader also urged Gandhi to place facts before Parliament instead of making what he termed unverified allegations.
“If Rahul Gandhi has questions, let him bring them before Parliament. The Home Minister is ready to answer every single question,” he said.
Sangchoju further accused the Congress of adopting a selective approach towards student protests. Referring to allegations of police action against protesting students in Jharkhand, he said reports of excessive use of force, tear gas, water cannons and alleged mistreatment of women protesters should be independently examined.
He said student issues should be addressed fairly and consistently, irrespective of the state or political party in power.
Sangchoju demanded that Gandhi substantiate his allegations before Parliament and the public, saying political issues should be debated through appropriate democratic forums.
“Come to Parliament, raise your questions and face the answers. Do not run away from the discussion,” he said.
State BJP vice president Tarh Soping and its media in-charge Dolang Tako were also present at the press conference.
