ITANAGAR, Aug 11: State Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik on Tuesday presented the National Flag to officials and staff of various departments attached to Lok Bhavan here as part of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
The initiative, undertaken by the Governor, aims to encourage greater participation in the celebration of the 80th Independence Day and reinforce the values represented by the Tricolour.
Presenting the flags, Parnaik urged the officials to become ambassadors of patriotism in their families and communities and encouraged them to take the spirit of national unity, civic responsibility and pride in the nation to every household.
“As you take home the Tiranga today, carry with it the spirit of national unity, civic responsibility and pride in our great nation. Let every home display the flag and every heart uphold the ideals for which it stands,” he said.
The Governor said the National Flag was much more than a symbol, as it represented the courage, sacrifice and unwavering determination of countless freedom fighters who secured India's independence.
He urged families to proudly hoist the Tiranga and educate children and youth about its history, significance and the values of unity, integrity and service to the nation.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, the Governor said it had evolved into a people's movement, strengthening the emotional bond between citizens and the National Flag and fostering a deeper sense of national pride.
He also called upon citizens to display the Tiranga with dignity and in accordance with the Flag Code of India. The flag should always occupy a position of honour and should not be allowed to touch the ground, used as decoration or displayed in a damaged condition.
The Governor further advised Lok Bhavan officials to carefully fold and respectfully preserve the National Flag after the celebrations and, if it becomes unserviceable, ensure its dignified disposal in accordance with the Flag Code of India.
