First Inter-Banggo Literary Competition held in Mebo

PASIGHAT, Aug 11: The first-ever Inter-Banggo Literary Competition was organised at Mebo in East Siang district to promote and preserve the language, literature, traditions and cultural heritage of the Adi community among students of government schools, including Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), under Mebo sub-division.

Students from Classes V to XII participated in the competition with enthusiasm. The initiative was sponsored by Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng and executed by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mebo, Nancy Yirang, in coordination with Block Resource Coordinator, Mebo, Genom Yirang.

Addressing the students, Former Director of Elementary Education, Bodong Yirang and Mebo ADC Nancy Yirang emphasised the importance of preserving the Adi language, traditions and cultural heritage, while encouraging students to actively contribute towards their conservation.

The competition featured a range of literary and creative activities, including essay writing on topics such as “Tourism Potential of Mebo Block,” “My Vision for a Clean, Green and Prosperous Mebo” and “Preserving Our Heritage While Embracing Development.”

A poem recitation on “Ngoluke Adi Do:lung” and a drawing and painting competition on the theme “Clean and Green Village” also drew enthusiastic participation from the students.

The organisers said the competition was aimed at encouraging young students to develop an appreciation for their language and cultural identity while nurturing their creative abilities and vision for the future development of Mebo.

Prizes and certificates for the winners will be distributed during the Independence Day celebration on August 15.
