ZIRO, Aug 12: The Lower Subansiri district administration has launched a major initiative to ensure 100 per cent registration of births and deaths by strengthening grassroots reporting mechanisms and improving access to registration services.
A coordination meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Registrar Oli Perme was held at Ziro on Wednesday, bringing together officials from the Panchayati Raj, Health, Women and Child Development, and Education departments. The meeting focused on establishing a reliable network of designated field “notifiers” to ensure that no birth or death goes unrecorded in the district.
As part of the initiative, online registration facilities are being introduced at the Sub-Divisional Officer’s office and the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Old Ziro. Dedicated computer equipment was provided to operationalise the system immediately.
Officials also discussed aligning circle-wise jurisdictions across departments and integrating newborn registration with Aadhaar enrolment to make the process more convenient for parents.
Assistant Director of Economics and Statistics Chiging Tamu reminded residents that registration of births and deaths is mandatory under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, and is essential for safeguarding citizens’ rights and entitlements.
He said birth certificates are required throughout an individual’s life for school admissions, passports, voter identity cards and other official documents, while death certificates are necessary for inheritance claims, insurance settlements and access to social security benefits.
The initiative aims to bridge administrative gaps and ensure that every birth and death in the district is legally documented, thereby protecting citizens’ access to education, welfare schemes, property rights and social security benefits. (DIPRO)
